Builders and developers in Isleworth, TW7
Bright Space Developments is a construction and development company working in Isleworth and across TW7. We convert commercial buildings into homes, take on residential development, refurbish and extend period and suburban houses, and design the structural work that each of them brings with it, acting as principal contractor throughout.

Our building and development services in TW7
TW7 holds two things most postcodes do not have together: a protected riverside village at Old Isleworth, and a mile of twentieth-century commercial building along the Great West Road. The second is where most of the development interest sits, and it is also where the rules have moved most in the last few years.

Working with Isleworth's buildings
Old Isleworth is the historic core, a riverside village of Georgian and earlier houses around All Saints and Church Street, sitting against Syon Park and its Grade I house and registered landscape. Away from the water, TW7 is Victorian and Edwardian terraces around the station and Twickenham Road, interwar semis towards Osterley, and then the Golden Mile, where the art deco factories of the Great West Road became offices and are now under pressure to become something else.
That produces an unusually broad range of work. Careful refurbishment and repair in the conservation areas by the river, extensions and loft conversions on the terraces and semis, and at the other end of the scale the conversion of commercial buildings into flats, with the change of use, structural alteration and full fit-out that goes with it.
Planning
Employment land and consent in Hounslow
Isleworth sits with Hounslow Council. The Old Isleworth and riverside conservation areas protect the village and its setting, and development near Syon is assessed for its effect on a Grade I listed house and its registered park, which is a higher bar than an ordinary conservation-area scheme. Elsewhere in TW7 designation is patchier and the suburban stock keeps useful permitted-development rights.
The Great West Road is a separate question. Much of the corridor is designated employment land, and the borough has used Article 4 directions to withdraw the permitted-development route from commercial to residential in the places it most wants to protect. So an office conversion here may need a full planning application rather than prior approval, and on some sites it will not be supported at all. We establish which regime a building falls under before a purchase is committed.
On the ground
What is left of the office conversion route
For a decade the quickest way to turn a redundant office into flats was prior approval rather than a full application, and a good deal of the Great West Road corridor was looked at on that basis. Boroughs pushed back where they wanted to keep employment floorspace, and Hounslow is among those that have used Article 4 directions to remove the right on protected land. The practical effect is that two buildings a few hundred metres apart can sit under completely different rules, and only one of them has a scheme.
So the appraisal has to come before the offer rather than after it. Designation, any direction covering the site and the borough's employment-land position together decide whether a scheme exists at all, and none of that is visible from the pavement. Where the route is open, attention moves to the building: daylight reaching the deeper parts of a wide floorplate, the height left once services are dropped below the slab, means of escape, and how drainage and ventilation thread through a frame never planned for kitchens and bathrooms.

FAQs
Builders in Isleworth: common questions
Do you work in Isleworth and the TW7 area?
Yes. Isleworth sits between Brentford and Twickenham, and Chiswick, where we delivered the Printworks conversion, is a short run up the same road. Conversion, refurbishment, extension and structural work all fall inside what we do here.
Can you convert an office on the Great West Road into flats?
Sometimes, and the answer turns on the site rather than the building. Much of the corridor is protected employment land and Hounslow has used Article 4 directions to remove the permitted-development route in places. We check the designation and the direction before anyone commits to a purchase.
Do you take on commercial-to-residential conversions?
Yes, it is one of our core specialisms. At Station Road in Hampton we converted a mixed-use building into five flats and a commercial unit, handling the change of use, the structural works and the fit-out across the whole scheme.
Can you work near Syon Park?
Yes, with the setting properly assessed. Syon is a Grade I listed house in a registered landscape, so a scheme within its setting is judged on its effect on both, not just on its own street. We establish that at the outset and design to it.
Do you build extensions on Isleworth houses?
Yes. Outside the conservation areas much of TW7 retains its permitted-development rights, so a rear extension or a loft is often a certificate rather than an application. We confirm the position for the address, then design, notify the neighbours and build.
How do you price a project in Isleworth?
Development and conversion work is priced from an appraisal rather than a rate, because the planning position drives the value before the build does. We establish what a site can become, produce a cost plan you can test the scheme against, then deliver as principal contractor. Tell us the building and what you have in mind for it.
Which nearby areas do you also cover?
Along the whole western corridor. Brentford and Hounslow either side, Twickenham and Richmond south, Chiswick and Ealing east, and on out to Feltham and Hanwell.
